Description

The Children of the Queen’s Writ tells the story of young Thomas Clifton, plucked from the streets of 16th century London, beaten, and forced to perform on the London stage. This intense and probing play shows how a little-known proclamation by Elizabeth I not only created the elite Chapel Choir of St. Paul's but also permitted the abduction of children for use by the wildly popular “boy theatricals.” Though set in Elizabethan England, The Children of the Queen’s Writ asks us to question the fine line between exploitation and entertainment and the role we ourselves may play in blurring that line.
